High Falls Pet Show announces 2019 ribbon winners

Under sunny skies, the 31st annual High Falls Pet Show took place on Saturday, May 11, in the parking lot of the High Falls Community Church.

A total of 46 pets were registered in competition, among them dogs, cats, snails, a ferret, a hamster, donkeys and baby goats. A petting zoo, featuring baby bunnies, turkeys and chicks, was provided by Shaye Davis of the Oakley Family. Rescue organizations and makers of pet supplies set up at tables.

Pet Show emcee was longtime local volunteer, artist and progressive political advocate Bobbi Esmark. She was joined by a trio of local celebrity judges: Marbletown board member Don LaFera, novelist Jen Doll, and playwright Daisy Foote, running for a Town Board seat.

The High Falls Pet Show is an annual community event created by your friends and neighbors from the High Falls Civic Association. In the 10 main competition categories, first-, second- and third-place ribbons were awarded. First-prize winners were:

  • Pet/Owner Look-Alike: Brooke the dog (Mark McCarroll, Shandaken)

  • Peewee-Size Pet: Jada the kitten (Sienna Greenberg, Accord)

  • Jumbo-Size Pet: Malichi the yellow Lab (Fernando and Lucia Coache, Stone Ridge)

  • Whippersnapper (most youthful): Monty the Jack Russell/Pomeranian-mix dog (Neva Anderson, Accord)

  • All-American Mutt: Lilly the golden retriever dog (Tracie Caccavel, Stone Ridge)

  • Old Friend (senior pet): Fergus, 11-year-old dog (Niall Munnelly, High Falls)

  • Most Unusual Pet: Bubble & Slip the snails (Savannah Hunt, High Falls)

  • Ms. High Falls: Nevada the dog (Rachel Brennecke, High Falls)

  • Mr. High Falls: Max the dog (Stella Grecco, High Falls)

The motto of the High Falls Pet Show is “Everyone's a Winner” and therefore ribbons were bestowed upon all pets in attendance, citing their individual qualities and superlatives.
