Three local, and one nationally known playwright, and four directors will have an opportunity to present their short plays at Arts at the Chocolate Factory. Each will be staged for three performances, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug 11 and 12, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the theater, Suite 2 at Arts at the Chocolate Factory, 54 Elizabeth St., Red Hook. Like last year’s Director’s Challenge, audience members will be asked to vote on their favorite play, and the director who receives the most votes will receive the Georgie Award, a statuette named in honor of American playwright George S. Kaufman. This year’s plays are: “Popcorn,” written by Ben Elton and directed by Richard Rizzo, “Soil,” written and directed by Amber Neilson, “For a Life,” written and directed by Cody Buser, and “Crossing Lines,” written and directed by Lydia Pidlusky of Rosendale. Each short play has two cast members, and the run time for each is approximately 15 minutes.  “Last year our Director’s Challenge was a huge success with both area students and seniors,” said Rosendale producer Frank Marquette. “There’s a lot of talent out there, and I’m happy to be in a position to promote it.”Tickets to the Director’s Challenge are $20, $15 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling 845-475-7973, and advance tickets can be purchased by visiting artsatthefactory.com.
