Owl Pellet Investigation at Cragsmoor Free Library

Posted

Join environmental educators from the Sam’s Point Area of Minnewaska State Park Preserve for this exciting, hands-on program, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Cragsmoor Free Library, 355 Cragsmoor Road, Cragsmoor. Owls are fierce birds of prey who hunt small rodents, insects and even small birds during the late hours of the night. They swallow their food whole, and what cannot be digested is turned into a small pellet that they expel. Examination of these pellets is a fun, hands-on, and educational activity for people of all ages. After opening and going through the pellets, the group will try to identify which animals the bones came from by measuring the skull and other bones found. This program is recommended for children between the ages of 6-12 years old, but all are welcome. Preregistration is required by contacting Nancy Krum, library director, by email at nancy@cragsmoorfreelibrary.info or by calling 845-647-4611. 5th Annual Paws for a Cause to be held in High Falls to benefit the Ulster County SPCA Enjoy gourmet food and drinks, live music, games, raffles, prizes, a silent auction, and furry friends for adoption, 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Crested Hen Farms, 607 County Route 6, High Falls.
